by Thomas Linton Leishman

In this third and final volume on the Old Testament in the Continuity of the Bible, the author, Thomas Linton Leishman, deals primarily with the prophetic writers. Inspired writings such as Ezra, Nehemiah, Proverbs, and Job, and those known as "Wisdom Literature," are also included.

The two previous volumes focused first on the religious foundation laid by the Patriarchs and next on the Hebrews journey into the Promised Land.

This volume includes the books from Isaiah through Malachi. Most often they are identified by the authors thought to have written them. Again and again these intrepid spiritual seers endeavored to lift the thought of the people to the worship of one God, the God of Israel, and to uphold the ideals of Mosaic law. Their message poured forth in colorful and vigorous terms designed to rouse the people, and they ranged widely over such areas as Assyria, Babylonia, Ethiopia, Egypt, Persia, Media, and Scythia.

The inspired vision of the prophets found fulfillment in the mission of John the Baptist and the Messiah of Prophecy, Christ Jesus.

Mr. Leishman - Bible scholar, historian and teacher - is preeminently qualified to be the author of a work on the Scriptures. Following his long paternal ancestry of Scottish Presbyterian ministers, Mr. Leishman himself prepared for the ministry at Edinburgh University where he was awarded the degrees of M.A., and B.D. From further studies at Union Theological Seminary in New York City he earned his S.T.M. (Master of Sacred Theology). After resigning from the Seminary, he devoted himself to writing and lecturing on Biblical subjects. Mr. Leishman continues the study of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek and also of Biblical archaeology to further his understanding of the basic sources of the Bible. The author is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature and the American Academy of Religion.
