“The article on the Church Manual by Blanche Hersey Hogue, in the Sentinel of September 10 [1910] is practical and scientific, and I recommend its careful study to all Christian Scientists” (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 237)
Under the heading “Take Notice,” our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy brings to the attention of Christian Scientists an article very simply titled “The Church Manual.” Written by Blanche Hersey Hogue, a teacher of Christian Science at the turn of the century, this article discusses the undivided relationship between the teachings of Christian Science and church organization, a relationship established by the Manual of The Mother Church.
The other article in this pamphlet, “The Manual and Organization” by Robert Peel, provides a historical overview of events leading up to Mrs. Eddy’s writing of the Church Manual.
Christian Scientists have found that blessings often emerge from a clearer, renewed sense of the spiritual purpose and significance of the Manual. With this in thought, The Church Manual — A Source of Strength is being reissued.
