Here is a powerful statement of God’s nature as infinite Love and of the demand to worship divine Love alone in obedience to the First Commandment. Mrs. Eddy also discusses Christ Jesus’ “new commandment,” his instruction to love one another. And she sheds light on the practicality of that demand, its indispensability in healing: “The new commandment of Christ Jesus shows what true spirituality is, and its harmonious effects on the sick and the sinner.”
This is a tender, deeply inspiring message about what it means to be Godlike—what it means in day-to-day experience to express more of our real selfhood, which is Love’s likeness. It’s a message about meekness and purity and forgiveness, about the healing qualities that confer true happiness.
